           Senior Vice Commander

The third Quarter of 2008 gives our Post the opportunity to continue to lead the way in community support for local Military activities.

Our Memorial Day weekend Buddy Poppy drive was very successful. Our Community donated generously We will again have the opportunity to show our involvement in a cause close to us all.

Our adopted unit, Company A, 1st Battalion, 121 Regiment, 48th Brigade, GA Army NG has returned from their deployment to Afghanistan. We Salute their service and welcome these Warriors into or ranks. The Unit  will continue to receive full support from our Post.

We have been working hard this year on the VFW's  National & Department Programs.  Remember that there is always more to be done, and membership participation is welcomed.  Comrade participation is always needed, and appreciated.

       John Veverka, Commander

Thank you for your interest in the VFW and our Post 5255, located in Lawrenceville, Ga.  We actively support our local Veterans, whether they currently serve in the Defense of our Nation, or have served  in prior times of conflict.

This past year, for the third time in the past 4 years, our efforts earned us the "ALL AMERICAN POST" designation, as one of the top 10 Posts in Division  5, and one of the top 45 Posts in the World.  This follows our being named as a "VFW Georgia ALLSTATE POST" for the 5th straight year.   We are all proud of these honors.

The members of the Post 5255 Ladies Auxiliary  dedicate themselves unselfishly for the betterment of all Veterans and our Community, and we are proud of their commitment and Post affiliation.

Our Membership has grown to almost 500 Comrades, (486), as of July 1st. Close to 30% are post-Vietnam era Veterans. We welcome all eligible Veterans; active, reserve, or prior, to come by and see what we offer.  Currently we are have a New Membership drive underway and will be glad to answer your questions.  We offer our VFW Post Hall for Member's  functions, and have Bingo four (4) times a week.  We offer KENO both in the Bingo Hall and in the Canteen.

J, R. Jennings, Junior Vice Commander

Lots of good things have been happening to our Post Hall.

The building has been completely renovated.  New ceilings, carpets, and bathrooms; a new coat of paint, and a new  Bingo concession area  have turned the Hall into an area that we can offer to event users with pride. A new kitchen has been completed, and our Members enjoy a variety of meals on Family Days, (the first Sunday of every month).

Outside, the roof was replaced, the brick walls covered with stucco, new parking lot lighting, and the picnic area has been reseeded.  The undergrowth in our forested area is being cleared.

We all agree our 62 year old building is once more standing tall !

The improvements to our Post Hall have enhanced our ability to continue to grow. These improvements have been costly, but necessary. Our Bingo sessions are popular community resources and our ability to offer a safe and up to code environment is a necessary requirement.

We have been able to accomplish these improvements under the Leadership of Commander John and the dedication and hard work of all.  At the same time, we have provided thousands of dollars toward Veteran and Community Programs and also aided those having family hardships.

Our Post Financial and Membership records have been computerized and a Post history project is close to being completed.

We encourage all eligible Veterans to come by, look our Post over, and seriously consider a membership in Post 5255.
