Mike Finch,
Senior Vice Commander
The second Quarter of 2008 gives our
Post the opportunity to continue to lead the way in community support for local
Military activities. Some upcoming Veteran events include:
Our Memorial
Day weekend Buddy Poppy drive. We will again have the opportunity to
show our involvement in a cause close to us all.
Georgia National Guard's 48th
Brigade is preparing to head back overseas, this time to Afghanistan. Our adopted unit, Company
A, 2nd Battalion, 121 Regiment, will continue to receive full support from
our Post. Plans are coming together to assist their families while the
Troops are deployed. Also pre-deployment, and over sea's support planning
is underway.
On May 10, we
have the Annual Cookout for the GA Veterans Home in Milledgeville, and Armed
Forces Day is May 20.
We have been
working hard this year on the VFW's National & Department Programs. Remember
that there is always more to be done, and membership participation is welcomed.

Comments From The Officers Mess
Jerry Rogers,
Junior
Vice Commander
Lots of good
things have been happening to our Post Hall.
The building has been completely renovated. New ceilings, carpets,
and bathrooms; a new coat of paint, and a new Bingo concession area
have turned the Hall into an area that we can offer to event users with pride. A
new kitchen has been completed, and our
Members enjoy a variety of meals on Family Days, (the first Sunday of every month).
Outside, the
roof was replaced, the brick walls covered with stucco, new parking lot lighting, and the picnic area
has been reseeded. The undergrowth in our forested area is being cleared.
We all agree
our 60 year old building is once more standing tall !
Mike Brown
Quartermaster
/ Adjutant
I'm pleased to announce
that we have once again achieved over 110% + Membership for the year.
The improvements to our Post
Hall have enhanced our ability to continue to grow. These improvements have been
costly, but necessary. Our Bingo nights are popular community resources and our ability to offer a safe and up
to code environment is a necessary requirement.
We have been able to
accomplish these improvements under the Leadership of Commander John and the
dedication and hard work of all. At the same time, we have provided
thousands of dollars toward Veteran and Community Programs and also aided those
having family hardships.
Our Post Financial and
Membership records have been computerized and a Post history project is close to
being completed.
We encourage all eligible
Veterans to come by, look our Post over, and seriously consider a membership in
Post 5255.
